Refugees from northern triangle in central america: salvadorans, hondurans, Forced to flee from their homeland due to fears of gang violence and persecution. In response to us pressure, mexico has clamped down on migration, changing transit policies and militarizing enforcement. Beginning in late 2019, under the new asylum cooperation agreements (acas), asylum-seekers who still manage to make it to the us border now risk being sent to countries in central america, not just mexico. Unprecedented mass mobilization of latinos (legal and illegal immigrants, also us- born) and non-latinos in a coordinated wave of nationwide protests between march and may 2006. Triggered by the passage of hr 4437, which threatened to raise penalties for illegal immigration and classify undocumented immigrants and anyone who helped them enter/remain in the us as felons. In addition, it would significantly enhance border control and interior immigration enforcement measures. It stopped the senate from passing a bill similar to hr 4437.
