People aren’t 100% successful at sex 100% of the time
Its natural for partners to have periods in which they have temporary problems
Sexual problems are “natural” and common
50% of people will have a major sex problem at least once in life
⅓ of these can be resolved by having accurate sex info
Premature ejaculatoin
@UCSB 37% of males ejaculate too quickly “occasionally or more often”
The most common male problem
2 definitions
Kaplan’s definition
PE exists when males ejaculate too fast & does not have voluntary
control the timing of ejaculation
Sex = is a stimulus response reflex (SR reflex)
Increase the speed of stimulus input -> increase the speed of response ->
Premature ejaculation
PE = especially common if he
Is young and only had sex a few times
Or he hasn’t had sex for a long time
PE therapy
1. Squeeze-tease technique (masters & johnson) to slow down erection than tease
to re-excite him
a. Starts with manual stimulation of the penis
b. The squeeze slows the time to orgasm
i. Increase time he can have erection & sex w/o ejaculating
c. This allows him to learn internal bodily feelings & learn voluntary
control over rate of input to the SR reflex
2. Stop - start technique (bernie zilbergeld)
a. Stop - focus on giving pleasure to his partner
b. Start - focus on giving pleasure to himself
