Voice problems may occur if one or both vfs aren"t working correctly. o. May be caused by: growths (nodules) on vocal folds, swelling or bumps (polyps) on vocal folds, paralysis of one or both vocal folds, paradoxical fold. Or: allergies or illness, large tonsils, poor vocal health. Factors that may contribute to poor vocal health & phonotrauma. Phonotrauma = behaviors that contribute to laryngeal injury, inflammation, and/or other forms of damage. Abnormal vocal quality: hoarse, rough, scratchy, harsh, or breathy, loudness (too much or too little, pitch (too high or too low) or decreased pitch range altogether. Instruction on good vocal hygiene (proper hydration, stop smoking, limit alcohol/caffeine intake, etc) Voice treatment to alter pitch, loudness, and breath support for good voicing. Treating other diseases like gastroesophageal reflux disease, allergies, and thyroid issues. Neuropsychological disorder with memory impairment and deficits in at least one other cognitive function: attention, language, problem-solving, etc. Symptoms present for 6 months or longer.
