Document Summary

Ex) not shaking people"s hands, sitting next to people you don"t know and asking for a bite of food, join conversion with people you don"t know, answer honestly when you"re asked how you"re doing. First half is description (how you felt thought, of how others reacted) and second half is analysis about power of social norms. What does this suggest about the role of social norms in society. After outstanding performance, students almost always do worse the next time when they are praised. Regression to the mean- extreme performances are more likely to go towards the mean in subsequent trials if data follows a standard bell curve. Probability of getting the mean is more likely than an extreme value. Less likely to do as well next time, and more likely to do better if awful. Can"t observe many features directly, so have to make inferences and the measure variables. Hypothesis- a testable belief about relationship between two variables.
