Personality is a dynamic concept describing the growth and development of a person"s whole psychological system. The sum total of ways in which an individual reacts to and interacts with others. Ex in army they take personality very seriously and have a whole unit to select people. How do we know? based on personality. Managers need to know how to measure person. Personality tests are useful in hiring decisions and help managers forecast who is best for a job. The most common means of measuring personality is through self-report surveys. Watching someone for their personality is costly. Myers-briggs type indicator (mbti)- doesn"t really work. It isn"t reliable over time- people take it over time and get different scores. Its not valid and does not relate to performance. Axes aren"t necessary exclusive (you can think and feel) Extroversion- the broad dimension of extroversion encompasses such more specific traits as talkative, energetic and assertive (my score 13)
