There are many many different tribes and they are not all alike. A challenge for the white colonists was who would be allies. There are major differences between native american childhood. Much more freedom and independence, indians encourage children to act the way they seem fit. They are not dressed up as young adults. They actually run around half naked, a casual version. Rights of passage- there is a notion that there is a point in life where you make the transition to adulthood. (13, 14, 15) Boys might do a vision test under the influence of drugs- hunting. Girls- first menstruation, isolated for a month in a menstrual cabinet. Formal way of marking a transition to adulthood. Passing down legends by speaking and sharing.
