NURS358 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Fundal Height, Varicose Veins, Morning Sickness
Document Summary
Lecture 2: antepartum period continued, 1st trimester, 2nd trimester (14-28 weeks, physically, weight gain, fundal height, fetal heart beat. Constipation (baby getting larger and pushing on bowels; progesterone tends to slow things down; have to counsel women on fiber and fluids and then stool softeners and increasing mg if still bothering them), quickening, back ache, less morning sickness. Less nausea, less fatigue - start to feel more like yourself than in 1st trimester. Stretch marks start to show up as soon as the belly starts to pop up. People feel more like themselves but they now look pregnant as opposed to just having a gut. The time they start telling people in their family they"re pregnant. Less risk of miscarriage than in 1st trimester - so excited to finally tell people. Usually positive time: psychologically/emotionally, more mood swings; stays consistent throughout whole pregnancy, anticipatory teaching. Everyone else in family starting to adjust emotionally.
