NURS372 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Deflate, Tube (Band), Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome
Document Summary
Something is obstructing it and it"s taking more pressure for that o2 to be delivered for that breath: maybe patient is chewing on it like a straw. This is the kind of person you may sedate. There"s oral devices to put in there so they will bite on that not the tube. Secretions also block that breath from getting into the patients chest - may need to be suctioned. Kinked tube, got wedged under their shoulder and they"re pressing on it - occludes pathway. Humidity gathers in tubing - the humidity starts to condense; routine care of ventilator includes emptying the humidified tubing of water - this is water in the tubing. Start at the top - always look at the patient and make sure they"re looking okay. Could be caused by patient pulling tube out - make sure tube is in.
