It is a serious error to do so. It would be an error to make the short-sighted (cid:448)ie(cid:449) that a spe(cid:272)ie"s (cid:449)elfare is (cid:373)erel(cid:455) an intraspecific matter. Any species is a segment of the entire community and its integrity and continued existence cannot be evaluated aside from the larger community unit. The quality of future humans will depend on the quality of our management of this community of organisms of which we are an integral part. Imagine that you do not know when you exist and was ignorant of the environmental policies of your time.
