Ethnicity: speciic atributes or societal insituions that make one group of people culturally diferent from others. Cultural community (or tribe) in east africa: markers: language, clothing, and diet. Religion in india: markers: family names and clothing. Naion: a group that desires self-government through an independent state, other elements. Oten (but not always) derived from ethnic idenity. Pride in one"s people and belief that they have a unique poliical desiny. India: a complicated jigsaw of ethnic and naional ideniies, two oicial languages. Hindi and english: india"s muslim region, cashmire, wants to be part of pakistan, not india. Example from the united states: naive american tribes. Naions in other countries: united kingdom. Not all ethniciies are naions, and not all naions are countries. A few countries are dominated by a single ethnic group: japan, germany, egypt. Some naions are divided: north korea and south korea. Many countries possess muliple naions: united kingdom, nigeria (250 ethnic groups)
