Document Summary
How do psychologists ask and answer quesions: scieniic method. Theory-explains through an integrated set of principles that organizes observaions and predicts behaviors and events. Hypotheses-good theories produce testable conclusions, called hypotheses. Hypotheses oten lead in the direcion to more research and possible answers. Operaional deiniions-describe concepts with precise procedures and measures. Descripive methods: describes behaviors, case studies, surveys, naturalisic observaions. Experimental methods: manipulate factors to discover their efects: descripion. Case study-examines one individual in depth in hopes of revealing things true of us all. Aitudes or reported behaviors of a whole populaion. Answers oten depend on the ways quesions are worded and respondents are chosen. Wording efects-criical thinkers will relect on how the phrasing of a quesion might afect people"s expressed opinions. Random sampling-representaive sample; best bias for generalizing is from a representaive sample of cases: populaion-whole group you want to study and describe, random sample-every person in group has an equal chance of paricipaing.
