In the brain : fmri brain scan of ppl who had just fallen madly in love , incr activity in parts of brain related to pleasure and reward. Sex differences: men: more activity in areas related to visual stimuli and penile erection, women: more activity in areas that process attention, emotion, and memory recall. Love is different from friendship : fascination, exclusiveness, sexual desire, giving the utmost, physical attractiveness. Attachment theory: adult relationships tie to type of mother-infant bond in early childhood, 4 styles. Proximity, similarity, and physical attractiveness play important roles in initiating relationships. To continue, a relationship needs mutual self-disclosure, equity and commitment. Change and the need to adapt to change is unavoidable in any long-term relationship. True intimacy requires mutual understanding of the good as well as the bad . Recognize your partner for what that person is; intimacy isn"t possible w/ a perfect person.
