Zygote: sperm + egg initiates prenatal development. 3 stages of prenatal development: germinal stage, blastocyst cells begin differentiate, embryonic stage. Brain development begins at ~day 18: will continue through early adulthood established and the heart beats. By the ninth week and the start of fetal stage, the major organs are the fetus continues physical maturation and (cid:498)bulking up(cid:499) until birth.
