Social determinants are the social conditions of health in which people are born into, live, work, play and die- single most important determinant of health status. Health disparities are caused by modifiable social factors- explains health better than race/ethnicity. Medical care alone cannot manage health; social conditions need to also change. Health effect at place - living in a poor area is bad for long and short term health. Kids are especially vulnerable to unhealthy conditons (social and environmental) in homes and neighborhoods- affects their developing psyche.
