GEOG 1101 Lecture 4: Study Notes at UGA
Document Summary
Population geography studies the spatial aspects of demography and the influences of demographic change on a particular place. What are the consequences of the distribution of populations at various scales. Demography is the study of human populations, how they change, their patterns, rate of change, future trends, etc. Population distribution refers to the location of populations or where people live. This is viewed at various scales: county, state, country, & world. It is important to determine the proper distribution of goods and services(food, retail items, emergency services, etc) It is important in determining boundary lines for political districts. It helps determine the location of transportation or communication routes. Population density, number of items per unit area, in this case the number of people. The most common idea is the arithmetic population density which calculates the number of people per unit area. This determined by the total population divided by total land area.
