Document Summary

Values and sportsmanship: prime values are those that can stand alone and include: honesty (truthfulness); justice (fairness); and responsibility (respect). Social values focus on what the american work ethic finds important, however these can still be problematic and as such must be tempered by prime values. Integrity: empathy, trustworthiness, humility, determination, accountability, hardworking, patience, honor, courage, humor. Leadership: cheating, unfortunately, cheating in sport is endemic! The rules that are broken may be explicit and formal or implicit and informal. The designation is based upon morality, ethics or customs. In some cases, it is to get over an injury: sportsmanship, describes someone who plays fairly in that they follow the rules of the game set by the sport organization that is responsible. These individuals place moral values ahead of achievement and healthy competition is viewed as a means to cultivating moral values.
