Cultural factors: more often found in people with experiences that lead to mistrust of others (prisoners, refugees, people with hearing impairment, older adults) Few seek professional help on their own; when in treatment, high drop out rate. Difficulty developing trusting relationships necessary for successful therapy. Cog(cid:374)itive therapy to cou(cid:374)ter perso(cid:374) s (cid:373)istake(cid:374) assu(cid:373)ptions about others. Key features: pervasive pattern of detachment from social relationships and restricted range of expression of emotions. Seem to neither desire not enjoy closeness with others. Social deficiencies similar to those with paranoid pd but much more extreme. Note: do not have the unusual thought processes that accompany the other. Etiology is unclear due to scarcity of research. Some individuals experienced abuse or neglect in childhood. May need to be taught emotions felt by others to learn empathy.
