BIOL 1344 Lecture Notes - Lecture 12: Clitoris, Vasoconstriction, Labia Majora
Document Summary
Cyclic changes; start at menarche (puberty) that end at menopause. Menstrual cycle: occurs in primates (humans+apes) discharge of uterine lining. First 5 days of cycle: is menstual cycle (menstrual flow) Day 14 (9 days after menstrual cycle): egg is discharged (ovulation) Next menustration starts 2 weeks from time of ovulation. Pregnancy: baby will arrive after 266 days + 14 days (days after the egg is discharged) 38 wks + 2 wks = 40 wks. Fimbriae and oviduct both create current into the oviduct. Fallopiam tubes join to the uterus: uterus: uterus is anteverted (opening is facing backwards; body of fundus faces anteriorly) Uterus also contains broad ligament, utero-sacred ligament, transverse cervical ligament, and round ligament. Sometimes there are prolapse of uterus: painful condition (swollen) in which uterus projects into vagina. Myometrium: musclar layer which are smooth muscles (the smooth muscles respond to oxytoin at parturition) 2. functional layer: faces uterine cavity; has spiral arteries that go through vasoconstriction during menustruation.
