Wasn"t big enough for small pox to become an endemic. N. a believed that small pox, measles, flu, scarlet fever were not present prior to european invasion: waves of epidemics = no acquire immunity. Many ppl were sick at once so health care was at a deficit. Small pox caused catastrophic effects and shaped relationship between n. a and europeans. Couldn"t divide and conquer because they were sick. Theory of treatments: treated with humoral medicine.
