GWS 200 Lecture Notes - Lecture 16: Plausible Deniability, Guy Code, Sexual Assault
Document Summary
Guys are told from a young age that no means yes, until recently. They are under the impression that girls say no to protect their reputation. A lot of times, guys simply aren"t interested in girls, and only want to get laid, therefore they will say just about anything to get laid. I like how the author adds in personal stories from young college boys. Makes the article more real and interesting. Guy code: men get as much sex as they can. Alcohol is often used to create a gray area, a realm of plausible deniability where no one supposedly has to take responsibility for what he (or she) wanted to do (p. 220) Boundaries are made for a reason- to protect men and women from falling into the gray area. Feminist writers claim that one in four women have had an experience that met the legal definition of rape.
