The core is where your ultimate secrets are - you want to keep for yourself and will never reveal to anyone else. You need to relieve yourself from certain roles and emotions. Privacy allows us to have this type of release. Privacy enables us to conduct self evaluation. You want to share things with people who you know will keep the information with themselves. You are seeking professional advice, and you therefore, share certain information. Ex: sharing info with people you know you will never meet ever again in your life. Four states of privacy (in this order) Intimacy closeness among a small group of people. Reserve freedom to withdraw from communication. Anonymity freedom from identification in public places. Westin: privacy is a fundamental part of civil liberty in a democratic society.
