BIOLOGY 225 Lecture Notes - Lecture 25: Egg Incubation, Vas Deferens, Seminiferous Tubule
Document Summary
In sexual, secondary polar body dies off, but in asexual, the second polar body fertilizes the mature ovum. Some animals can be both male and female. Eggs and sperm production possible at same time. Oocytes are bigger in size, fewer number. Produces changes so animal can adapt to environment. Different layers of dermis developed in gastrula. Need to be able to make haploid gamete. Sex determination by temp dependent sex determination. Temp of egg incubation alters sex of offspring. May be affected by hormone levels in egg. How far they"re buried in the sand can change temp, artificial alteration of incubation. Remove smaller fish and put bigger fish, new bigger fish will become male. Takes a lot of energy to make oocyte, bc it provides the energy/nourishment. Mature sperm at top (near lumen), primary sperm farther down. Develop an axoneme at base of a flagellum. Gain ability to swim / mature in epididymis.
