Some things are human made, some are not. We read soundscape to hear layers that matter to us. The interplay of sounds is different than sounds in isolation. Humans are bad at identifying things that are right behind them. People can close their eyes to hear better. Space is open and abstract, like the idea of a city. Highlights role of humans in generating associations that transform spaces to places. Our experiences of place are informed by naturally occurring sounds and the sounds we make or associate with that place. Space is the raw material used to create places. Musicking creates particular earnings for spaces, even if these are used for other things. Space designed for music performance/listening ave particular qualities. Placemaking also involves memory and in that sense in not ephemeral. Music may heighten a space of place through the experience of affect. Cities and parts of cities are places that may be associated with particular musics.
