Biological generativity conceive and give birth. Work generativity skills passed on to others, mentoring. Does generativity relate more to midlife: across different ages, there are no differences in attitudes or activities, generativity is a lower priority for young people than for middle age and older people. Are highly generative people happier: no, they experience a greater sense of purpose and meaning, hedonic vs. eudaimonic happiness. Methods: in depth biographical interview with: 40 men (35-45 years) hourly workers, business executives, university biologists, novelists, 45 women (35-45 years) homemakers, business executives, university professors. Transitioning into midlife: evaluate success in achieving early adulthood goals. What do i really want out of life: realization that they have more time behind them than ahead of them in life.
