Medicalization can be seen in an optimistic light. Ptsd is an individual medicalization that has a focus on those at war. Sick role (it is not state of being) We tend to look in the wrong places, we usually focus on the clinician"s intent. We look, but don"t see it because these social effects are disguised as treatment. As things go from non medical to medical, it increases the jurisdiction of medicine in the lives of individuals. As more things are medicalized as abnormal, there are less things seemingly conventional (normal) }using a medical diagnosis as a reason to not reach usual daily responsponsibilities. Insidious concept, it starts slowly and often goes unnoticed but nonetheless is creating negative effects.
