Document Summary

Photosynthesis: trophic organizaion- must eat food, or obtain organic molecules from environment. Photoautotroph- use light as a source of energy. Oxygen is the terminal electron receptor in the electron transport chain. Atp not a long term storage energy source. Using energy from sun, atp and nadh are formed. Redox reacions of photosynthesis revolve around carbon ixaion. Chloroplast: organelles in plants and algae that carry out photosynthesis. Chlorophyll- green pigment, stomata- carbon dioxide enters and oxygen exits leaf. Chloroplast anatomy- 3 membranes, inner, outer and thylakoid membrane. In between these membranes is the intermembrane space. Strogma- luid illed region between thylakoid and inner membrane. 2 stages of photosynthesis: light dependent reacions- take place in thylakoid membranes. Produce atp, nadph, and o2 calvin cycle- light independent reacions: can happen in presence of light or dark, occurs in stroma and uses atp and nadph to incorporate co2 into organic molecules. To go from nadp+ to nadph you need one h+ and two electrons.
