Before$you$can$waive$your$rights,$you$must$know$that$you$have$them$to$
begin$with.$Thus,$Miranda$provides$that$before$custodial$interrogation,$
Defendants$must$be$informed$of$their$rights.$You$also$must$have$a$
meaningful$opportunity$to$claim$your$rights$and$the$Miranda$warnings$
serve$the$purpose$of$informing$the$D$that$the$police$know$you$have$rights$
and$are$willing$to$allow$you$to$exercise$ them.
