Sports Injuries
Injuries that can be broadly classified as either traumatic or overuse injuries; e.g. contusions,
strains, sprains.
Common injuries:
Muscle strain is an injury to a muscle or tendon in which fibers tear as a result of
overstretching.
Muscle cramp is a painful involuntary muscle contraction, typically from muscle fatigue,
low sodium, and low potassium.
Muscle soreness or delayed onset muscle soreness ( DOMS) is muscle painand stiffness
associated with new or strenuous exercise.
Tendinitis/tendinosis is inflammation of the tendon
Traumatic/Acute

Document Summary

Injuries that can be broadly classified as either traumatic or overuse injuries; e. g. contusions, strains, sprains. Muscle strain is an injury to a muscle or tendon in which fibers tear as a result of overstretching. Muscle cramp is a painful involuntary muscle contraction, typically from muscle fatigue, low sodium, and low potassium. Muscle soreness or delayed onset muscle soreness ( doms) is muscle painand stiffness associated with new or strenuous exercise. Tissue loading is sufficient to cause irreversible deformation. Training load is increased at rate that exceeds tissues ability to adapt. Load external force acting on internal tissue. Elasticity allows tissue to return to normal after deformation. Plastic- tissue deformation that exists after load removed. Creep deformation of tissue occurs withg constant load overtime. Mechanical failure exceeds ability to withstand stress and strain, causes tissue to break down. Tenosynovitis is inflammation of the fluid sheath that surrounds tendon.
