Document Summary

Clearing an area of the forest and living there until the nutrients have been depleted from the ground. Farmers use fire to clear a particular area of the rainforest, moving from one area to another during off years. No thick topsoil so when you clear the trees it depletes the soil very rapidly, and it can only be used for a short period of time. Characterized by loss of fat everywhere on the body. Global deficiency for wood which causes the large scale destruction of forests. Pastoral nomadism: herding of domesticated animals in arid and semi-arid regions. Resembles our original hunters and gatherers very closely. Do not hunt the animals for meat, use animals for other purposes. Don"t eat the meat unless the animal dies. Rely most on grains which they trade for (diet mainly grains -- wheat) Xerophthalmia: vitamin a deficiency (found in leafy vegetables) Pastoralists tend to not fill this nutritional requirement.
