GEOG 130 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Millennium Development Goals, Sustainable Development Goals, International Development
Document Summary
Millennium development goals: eradicate extreme poverty and hunger, achieve universal primary education, promote gender equality and empower women, reduce child mortality rate. 5: combat hiv/aids, malaria, and other diseases, ensure environmental sustainability, develop a global partnership for development. There was no common framework for achieving global development before these goals. These goals were not meant to be achieved by a certain country or funded by a certain organization, but rather meant for all countries and funded by many private and public organizations. A lot of these goals involve health because you can never and will never be able to achieve development without public health. The us encourage the over processing of corn by farmers. Then, the government buys the surplus and exports it to other countries. This destroys the markets in other countries because we sell it below their market price/the price they can produce it for.
