Document Summary

Experiences resulting from stimulation of the senses/receptors. In humans perception is determined by: information originating from stimulation of receptors, additional information such as context, knowledge or expectations. Energy contains information about the world (usually incomplete, full of noise, and distorted) Receptor transduces energy into a neural response. Sensory nerve transmits the coded activity to the central nervous system. Thalamus processes and relays the neural response. Relayed to specialized areas of the cortex. So why cant we program computers to perceive: there should be more in between the last two, we have some ability to recreate perception, but we have experience, its difficult to replicate experience. Is often ambiguous and relies on interpretation of the stimulus. Inverse projection problem: image on the retina could be create by any number of objects. What we encounter is not an exact copy of the world.
