Ainsworth and bowlby formed attachment theory from psychoanalysis: attachment theory- we form emotional bonds with our caregivers which become internal working models (mental representations) of all future intimate relationships (especially if they are similar in characteristics/behaviors) Freud is controversial because: considered sexist, not testable because they are introspective, no evidence his techniques actually work. Freud is important because theories greatly influenced personality and clinical psychology: also influenced many subjects such as: sociology, political science, cultural and literary studies and religion. Thought that instincts to fuel functions of the mind.
