It was a challenge to be published: some used pseudonyms (fake names, circulated poems privately/ some had subscriptions. Scholars say we must be careful not to gender these poets. Just because they"re wo(cid:373)e(cid:374) does(cid:374)"t mean they speak with the same voice: women use birds and different symbols than men, bird symbol because of freedom, relationships with patriarchal restraints, musical background in poem, there is a comedic quality.
