Review of blues: can identify based on race. Blues fits into race music: country blues and urban blues or classic blues, how are you gonna identify these sounds, country blues has a lot of guitar in it. Intimate feel: classic blues has a lot of brass in it and piano. Urban blues were predominately women singers accompanied by jazz bands: both have ragtime influence. Hillbilly (country) continuum: ralph peer found both of the following musicians, carter family. Song composed in 1899: acoustic guitar and auto harp. Somebody who jumped trains and had encounters with the law. Instrumentation: two main instruments were piano and trumpet. Jazz influence for instrumentation: louis armstrong and his wife lillian. Trumpet and piano respectively: both are important for forming what is considered country music together. Outlaw country: ralph peer came up with the hillbilly and race music distinctions.
