Document Summary

Hypothesis tests are our way of testing. There are 6 steps to a standard hypothesis tests. Choose your test statistic ( and justify it ) Educated guess about the real nature of the world that translate a problem statement into something testable with the goal of generalizing to a population. Null hypothesis ( h0) : the hypothesis where nothing happens and everything stays the same. Research hypothesis ( ha): the hypothesis where things happen (e. g differences exist and change occur) One-tailed: we expect differences to go in a specific direction. Two tailed: we expect there to be a difference, but we don"t predict which direction. Symbolic: h0: 2 = 1 or h0: 2 = (benchmark value ) Where 2 is the mean for the population we"re comparing our sample comes from. And 1 is the mean for the population we"re comparing our sample to The benchmark value is the actual numerical value of 1.
