Culture of the american family has evolved tremendously. Who can get married has drastically changed. Young people getting married later and later, or not marrying at all. Seeking marriage later in life: men marry at around 29 years, women marry at around 27 years. Increased rise of adults who have never been married by double since the 1960s. Even non-traditional families in modern societies committed to monogamy. Serial monogamy practice of having several faithful romantic or sexual relationships with different people. Our idea of dating a folkway to be dating more than one people. Throughout a lifetime, people have more than one mate, but only one at a time. We constantly hear that divorce rates are high in america: increased over the last 100 years. But rates have begun to decrease recently. Western and northern europe show higher rates of cohabitation and common-law marriage. Cohabitation living together as a couple without being legally married.
