Document Summary

Type of metamorphism you see depends on what you see. Changes in mineralogy, texture, and often chemical composition of a solid rock subjected to conditions very different to those in which it initially formed. Metamorphic reactions: index minerals - minerals that tell us the temperature and pressure conditions. Subduction zone setting - take material from near the surface and subduct it into the crust, perhaps even the mantle, increase pressure more quickly than temperature. Regional metamorphism - continent-continent collision, mountain building and orogeny, hotter path than subduction zone. Different features that occur as we deform rocks in the crust. Deformation - general term for all changes in the original form or size of a rock unit. Faults - cut them by a plane and offset. When we talk about earthquakes, we are usually talking about a rupture on a fault surface (a structure) When we talk about fluids (e. g. magma chamber hot springs and geysers), that phenomena is structural geology.
