Document Summary
December 12th, 2019 - last lecture of the semester!! What sounds did some of the cretaceous (specifically, 66-68. The outer hard shell of the earth- the lithosphere- is broken into plates that interact at plate boundaries, which can be: convergent (plates collide, divergent (plates move apart, transform (plates slide past each other) The type of crust can be: oceanic, continental. With the less dense continental crust too buoyant to subduct at convergent boundaries, and the oceanic crust often subducting to great depths in the mantle, where it may produce melt and generate volcanoes way above it on the surface. Our plate boundaries are outlined by earthquakes (see 2000-2015 earthquakes here: https://www. youtube. com/watch?v=ph7eczs-nti) and interactions at plate boundaries control the distribution of many of the hazards that we worry about no the earth"s surface. We can make earthquakes, though we can"t yet predict them, and we are making a lot of earthquakes in some places!
