Industrialization: moving from a society that is based around agricultural production to manufacturing. Increase in education: greater need and more access. Modernization: relates to the economic, cultural, social, and political changes associated with industrialization. Development of statistics: social phenomena could be quantified, relationships could be analyzed. Shared values and culture disseminated through the mass media: mass media (especially film, tv) seen as tools for persuasion and manipulation to help maintain a mass society. Also called hypodermic needle model, magic bullet theory.
