Jobs requiring one to follow orders; children taught to value conformity. She interviews many families, then she spent time in the family household. Key elements-parents actively fosters and assess child"s talents, opinion, skills. Organization of daily life-multiple child leisure activities orchestrated by adults. Language use- in working class, kids are encouraged to talk and negotiate; middle class families, not so much. Wealthyand middle class parents think its important to invest in their kids and develop their mind and physical needs. Lower class families think its important to invest in basic needs, school, etc. And the school will educate the child and make them well rounded. Lower class parents are not as involved in child"s lives. She concludes that in educational system, skills sets coming from an upper class background are more rewarded: social mobility and social class persistence.
