The anxiety disorders: specific phobia (anxiety is specific to some object or situation, there are two criteria: i. ii. iii. Know agoraphobia & xenophobia: agoraphobia: fear of leaving a house, open spaces, xenophobia: fear of foreign people, people unlike oneself, formerly, an anxiety disorder, but now it"s in its own category, obsessive-compulsive disorder (ocd) i. ii. Somatic symptom disorder & illness anxiety disorder (formerly, somatoform: located in cell body ) Condition in which illness becomes a way of life . Usually, no physical symptoms other than pain: conversion disorder. A sensory or motor impairment without apparent organic cause iii. iv. v. i. ii. The affective disorders: major depression, sad, slow-moving, full of guilt, apathetic, socially withdrawn i. ii. Decreased levels of serotonin and norepinephrine in some parts of the brain. These are neurotransmitters: bipolar disorder, alternating episodes of depression and mania, mania is characterized by, exuberant, unrealistic activity, feelings of elation and self-confidence.
