The atlantic world, 1492-1619: the spanish pretty much dominated america, the english come into north america in 1607. The early slave trade began with the atlantic slave trade. U. s. started slavery in 1619 in jamestown and lasted until the civil war in 1865. The scale in size, what labor will be done (cash crops like tobacco and cotton), in the us it becomes permanent/hereditary/racial. It was not inevitable: but why africa, what factors resulted in the choice of africans to fill the need for labor in the. St. augustine, fl is the oldest original settlement.
