Document Summary

Inorganic co2 is found in the atmosphere. Carbon is so useful because it has 4 unpaired electrons on its outermost shell which let it bond up to. Valence electrons- electrons in the outermost shell. Inert = unreactive (ex: an element with 8 valence electrons in its valence shell) Aldehyde- happens at the end of the molecule. Ketone- happens in the middle of the molecule. Acts as an acid because it can donate a hydrogen. The oxygen steals the hydrogens electron and makes the hydrogen a cation. Can act as a base because nh2 picks up h from a solution to make nh3+ Polymers are made up of repeating molecules of monomers (small building blocks) Dehydration because a water molecule is lost. As the reaction happens, one molecule donates an oh and the other donates an o to make h2o which leaves, and the molecules join together to form a bond.
