GRG 301K Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Gerontology Research Group, Bioproducts, Stratopause
Document Summary
Bi-product of decomposition (most coming from animals and humans) Does different things in different areas of the atmosphere: in stratosphere: blocks uv rays, upper 2/3 of atmosphere: temperature increases, bad ozone in troposphere. Stagnant weather -> lots of pollution -> bioproduct of human. Particles in solar winds formed earth -> earth cooled -> outgas -> clouds formed rain fell rain boiled away -> after cooling, oceans filled with water. Uv radiation through chemical reactions produced some oxygen. Most came from photosynthesis (first from bacteria, then from plants). Mesosphere: 30-55 miles and up: stratopause. Homosphere: surface to 55/60 miles up: well-mixed region. Grg 301k lecture 5: where we live. Heterosphere: 55-60 miles and up: layering of gasses. Ionosphere: 45/50 miles and higher: not really a layer, but an electrified region where molecules (n) and atoms (o) are readily ionized by sw radiation. D+e layers: very absorbent, composed of gas and solar radiation, disappear when sun goes down.
