Document Summary

1950s-70s - first wave (b, but no c) Skinner, wolpe, lazarus - focus on shaping observable behaviors. Overt behavior - can be seen from the outside. Skinner: mind = black-box (can"t see it) use observation to measure it. Bandura, meichenbaum, beck - add focus on private events. Beck - treatment for depression is heavy on c and t (b is still present) Self-talk idea came around - how we talk to ourselves about ourselves. How c and b inter-relate change behavior by changing cognition (easier to access someone"s thinking than feelings) Improving on the specifics more targeted to specific types of treatments. Got ignored by second wave - which was manualized. Currently - primary model is insight-oriented model for mental health treatment. Asks you to introspect, and look inside yourself - insight. Learned and maintained by aspects of the environment.
