Questions to ask when visiting the world that is a play: the world of the play. Every dramatic world will have characteristic sounds- of mourning, celebration, human sounds, or sounds of the landscape, and silence: the social world of the play. What does(cid:374)"t (cid:272)ha(cid:374)ge: is there a sta(cid:271)le or fi(cid:454)ed poi(cid:374)t i(cid:374) this world: do(cid:374)"t forget yourself. Or is the intention simply to entertain: theatrical mirrors (???, the character fits the pattern. Every assumption you make about a character must reflect the conditions of its world, including the way psychology functions in that world. Characters mean only as they inhabit, enact, fulfill, engage a succession of sites, actions, and objects under a specific set of conditions. They are constituents of a complex artistic pattern: find the pattern first! Become curious as each element is revealed as a player in the play. Be someone who is aroused to meaning! There is nothing in the world of a play by accident.
