Document Summary

Everybody has a story but there has to be a reason for it to be reported. There are 8 news values that make news worth and it"s not journalism or media ethics. It"s why they should or shouldn"t cover a story. Soft news makes use of narrative storytelling, human interest, literary devices (metaphor, personification) and emotional details: ex: community events, people"s interests, fashion and flock stories . Hard news cover stories on policies, local affairs and breaking news with a direct approach: ex: daca, corruption, traffic. Events that are immediate or recent make news. News that affects a lot of people, instead of just a few people: ex: fdot shutting down i-275 from dale mabry to busch boulevard. Events and issues regarding well-known people or institutions are more newsworthy than those involving lesser-known people or institutions: ex: wedding, pregnancy, death, etc. People are interested in issues and events close to them, geographically or emotionally.
