The religion of judaism generally unified by belief in one g-d who acts in human affairs who has chosen the jewish people as agents. Worshiped one g-d: by burning animal sacrifices. Patriarchs circumcised males: sign of covenant with abraham. The formation of mosaic law basis for the pentateuch: first five books of the hebrew scriptures. Possibly sacred dancing before ark a form of worship. Prophets were estatic visionaries with healing powers. Royal prophets: the religious advisors to the king. Some prophets denounced wickedness among the people. Babylonian empire invades judah (586 bc), exiles people: prophets ezekiel and isaiah teach that yaweh is g-d of all people in all lands, not a geographically limited deity. The priest ezra (428 bc: reforms judaism after exile, begins process of forming hebrew scriptures. Second temple built in jerusalem 6th century bc, lasts until 70 ad. Scattering of jews all around the world. Large jewish community in alexandria compels jews to translate.
