In the play a streetcar named desire by tennessee williams is a play written in 1947. It was definitely ahead of its time with the context the play had to offer. It dealt with various subjects that were difficult to talk about. For example, some subjects mentioned included rape, domestic abuse, and mental illnesses. Through the film we get to see how certain subject are hidden because they were controversial to display at that time. Blanche dealt with a mental illness and i believe vivien. She was able to capture the blanche from the play. Both the play and the film involves a school teacher named blanche dubois. Blanche goes to stay with her sister stella for a while after losing her job. The reasons why she loses her job become known throughout the story. Stanley who is stella"s husband dislikes blanche because of her lies and illusions. There comes a point where stella is defending her sister from.
