Read russell"s the value of philosophy for this lecture. Most philosophical questions can"t be definitively proven. Without philosophy, one goes through life persuaded by cultural biases, habitual beliefs, common sense , others" beliefs, etc. It"s not bad to be influenced by culture at all! It"s just that you must find what you believe in instead of following what others around you believe. Stepping back and reflect rigorously helps one escape this prison . The word prison is used here because that"s what russell referred the limited knowledge of yourself as. Without always providing definite answers, philosophy helps provide justification for one"s beliefs by developing our critical reason/thinking . Philosophy majors score very high in many tests, like the gmat (used to assess applicants to grad school in management and business), the lsat (entrance exam for law school), and many more. Creative jobs are the jobs of the future. There will be a need of creative thinkers and creative people.
